MSW ALUMNAE ASSOCIATIONThe MSW Alumnae Association is a fellowship of MSW program graduates who work together to strengthen and support each others' recovery, as well as the recovery of current program participants and to participate in MSW activities. Letter from the President
While in residential treatment I began my process of recovery. I was encouraged to share my story and the problems and fears I faced. As I participated in groups, took the advice of the MSW counselors and staff, I grew to accept of myself and began to understand the nature of my disease. The longer I was there, the more the MSW community showed their love for me and it was then that I began to love myself again. I also learned I wasn’t alone in my recovery. I forged true and trusting relationships with women, just like me, who were beginning their journey into sobriety. Although I am forever changed by the learning, growing, and relationship building I experienced, above all, MSW helped me to have hope again. Today, I am a whole new woman. I’m living a life fulfilled, hopeful, and sober. One day at a time I am becoming the person I once was. I am confident, healthy, and committed to my recovery. And, now my relationship with my children is better than it has ever been. Being present for them on a daily basis makes all the difference. I’m so thankful to MSW staff for being there for me when I needed them most. In order for me to stay on my recovery path I live one day at a time, connected and in service, sharing my experience of strength and hope. I am honored to be serving as the Alumnae Association President this year. What a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community that truly saved my life! Joining me are fellow officers: Vice President, Carrie Rutherford; Secretary, Amy Nickels; and Treasurer Jackie Nygaard. We extend an invitation to all MSW alumnae to join other alumnae and current residents at our weekly meeting every Sunday from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Outpatient Lounge. We also encourage you to attend our monthly business meeting held on the last Sunday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the Outpatient Lounge as well. Together we can build a strong Alumnae Association, active in helping other women, just like us, get the help they need to recover their lives from substance abuse and trauma. All the best, Ellen Swan President Marin Services for Women Alumnae Association
Calendar of Alumnae Activities
Big Sister ProgramOne of the programs the current Alumnae Association officers implemented is the Big Sister Program. It is very similar to the Big Sister program in residential treatment. When current program participants are getting ready to make the transition from treatment to home, they are put in contact with an alum who has successfully gone through it. Being a Big Sister not only provides those new to recovery with strength, support and knowledge about their local recovering community, it also helps keep us sober.
